Tribal Woman Allegedly Gangraped by Labourers in Angul

Angul: In yet another disturbing incident of sexual violence in Odisha, a tribal woman was allegedly gangraped by three labourers in Angul district. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening but came to light after police began an investigation based on the victim’s complaint.

According to reports, the woman, a resident of Pallahara town, had visited Chhendipada hospital for some personal work. After completing her visit, she was on her way to a relative’s house with her nephew when the assault occurred near Baraamancha village. The three accused — all labourers — allegedly attacked and gangraped her during the journey.

The survivor approached the local police following the incident. Based on her complaint, Bagadia police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.

This incident adds to the growing concern over women’s safety in the region. In May, Angul police arrested 28-year-old Bisu Gochhayat, an autorickshaw driver from Raigarh, for the brutal rape and murder of a 25-year-old woman from Maharashtra. Bisu, who was working in a private firm, confessed to raping the victim near a canal road in Kendupalli village and killing her by strangling her with her stole.

Authorities have assured strict action in both cases as public outrage over rising crimes against women continues to grow in the State.
