Tim White Appointed Coach of India Junior Women’s Hockey Team

New Delhi: Hockey India on Friday named Australian high-performance coach Tim White as the new head coach of the Indian junior women’s hockey team, marking a key move aimed at strengthening the country’s emerging talent pool.
White, who was recently at the helm of the Tamil Nadu Dragons during the Hockey India League (HIL) earlier this year, brings with him a wealth of international coaching experience spanning Europe and Australia. His appointment comes at a time when India is focusing on building a strong pipeline of players capable of transitioning smoothly to the senior level.

Prior to joining Hockey India, White coached the Belgium Under-21 women’s team, guiding them to a bronze medal at the 2025 Junior World Cup. He was also part of the Belgium senior women’s coaching setup between 2021 and 2024, a period during which the team rose from 12th to third in world rankings and reached the semi-finals at the Paris Olympics.
Earlier in his career, White served as the national junior coach for Australia and also led the side to a podium finish at the Junior World Cup, further underlining his credentials in youth development.
Speaking on his new role, White expressed enthusiasm about returning to India, highlighting the country’s deep-rooted hockey culture and promising young talent. He emphasised his focus on building technically strong players who can step up to the senior level, while also advocating a balanced style of play that combines attacking intent with defensive discipline.
White also stressed the importance of physical fitness and consistency, noting that his approach would centre on developing core skills under pressure and fostering a team-first mentality.
Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey welcomed the appointment, stating that White’s proven track record in nurturing junior teams and delivering results at the international level made him an ideal choice. He expressed confidence that White’s experience would play a vital role in preparing India’s young players for global competition.
Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh echoed similar sentiments, saying the move aligns with Hockey India’s vision of providing world-class coaching to junior teams. He added that White’s guidance would be crucial in helping players navigate the critical transition from junior to senior international hockey.
White’s appointment is seen as a strategic step by Hockey India to bring modern coaching techniques and high-performance standards into its junior programme.
