Thunderstorms, Rain Likely in Several Odisha Districts; IMD Issues Orange, Yellow Alerts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorm activity in several parts of Odisha over the next few days, while heatwave conditions are expected in some western districts.
According to the midday weather bulletin issued on Saturday, isolated rainfall and thunderstorms are likely in northern, western and southern districts, whereas other parts of the state may continue to experience dry weather. The IMD has also warned that heatwave conditions may prevail at one or two places in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur during the next two days.

For March 14–15, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak districts. A Yellow warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph.
The weather system is expected to expand on March 15–16, with rainfall or thunderstorms likely at isolated places in several districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.
Thunderstorm activity is likely to intensify on March 16–17, when the IMD has issued an Orange warning for Rayagada, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph. A Yellow warning has also been issued for several other districts where winds may reach 30–40 kmph.
From March 17 to March 19, isolated rain or thunderstorms may continue in districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati, with Yellow warnings for gusty winds and lightning in some areas.
Between March 19 and March 21, light rainfall or thunderstorms are likely in a few districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati, while the rest of the state is expected to experience dry weather. No weather warnings have been issued for this period.
The IMD said there will be no major change in maximum temperatures during the next 24 hours, after which daytime temperatures may gradually drop by 3–5°C over the following four days across Odisha.
