Thunderstorms, Lightning and 50 km/h Winds Expected for Next 4 Days

The India Meteorological Department has issued a multi-day weather alert for Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across several districts over the next four days.
The state is currently experiencing contrasting weather conditions, with intense daytime heat followed by evening rainfall. According to officials, this pattern is expected to continue until April 3, bringing potential risks in vulnerable regions.
Orange Warning for Northern Districts
An Orange warning has been issued for the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Keonjhar. These areas may witness:
- Heavy rainfall in isolated pockets
- Lightning strikes
- Gusty winds reaching 40–50 km/h
- Possibility of hailstorms
Residents in these districts are advised to remain cautious, especially during evening hours when storm activity is likely to intensify.
Yellow Alert Across Multiple Regions
In addition to the Orange alert, the IMD has placed 17 districts under a Yellow warning, indicating:
- Moderate rainfall
- Thunderstorms with lightning
- Localised strong winds
The Yellow warning will remain in effect through Wednesday, suggesting continued unstable weather conditions across the state.
No Immediate Heatwave Expected
Despite recent high daytime temperatures, meteorologists have clarified that no significant rise in temperature is expected in the coming days due to ongoing storm activity. This may provide temporary relief from extreme heat conditions.
Safety Advisory
Authorities urge people to:
- Avoid open fields during lightning
- Stay indoors during thunderstorms
- Secure loose objects to prevent wind damage
- Follow local administration updates
