Three Youths Arrested for Extorting Police Officer in Balasore

Balasore: In a late-night drama on Thursday, three youths were arrested in Balasore district after they allegedly stopped a police officer and demanded money from him near Barapada Chhak under Khaira police limits.

According to reports, Sub-Inspector (SI) Sanjeeb Khuntia of Khaira police station was patrolling in plain clothes when the trio intercepted his motorcycle and demanded cash. The SI immediately alerted Khaira Police Station IIC Suchandra Mahalik, who rushed to the spot with a team and apprehended the accused.

Police recovered a country-made pistol, ₹700 in cash, a Pulsar motorcycle, and several sharp weapons from their possession. The three were produced in court on Friday.

Sources said the accused have a history of criminal activities, with multiple cases registered against them in Soro, Khaira, and Bhubaneswar. They are suspected to be involved in a series of snatching and robbery incidents, mainly targeting pedestrians.

Investigations are underway to ascertain their role in other crimes across the region.
