Three students are district toppers in Sambalpur

Surjit Kumar Dhal,SAMBALPUR, MAY 22: Three students of Sambalpur district have secured equal marks and have got the credit of becoming district toppers.
The toppers are Akankhya Jena and Siddhartha Sahu of Sri Aurobindo School of Integral Education at Rairakhol, a backward sub-division of the district.
The third boy – Debesh Kumar Sahu – is also from another nondescript place of the district, Mahulpali under Kuchinda sub-division, and a student of KGMN High School. They have all secured 556 marks each.
Gaurab Jena, father of Akankhya, is a small businessman of Rairakhol town. But Siddhartha’s father Sebak Sahu is a resident of Nakchi, a village in between Rairakhol and Angul. Siddhartha was staying in the school hostel to pursue his studies.
“Hard work and proper guidance of the teachers have given us the result,” say both Akankhya and Siddhartha.
At the same time both the students said they want to become doctors and serve the people of the State.
“We have seen the health and hospital problems in our respective places. That prompts us to choose this career” both of them said over telephone.
But the aim of Debesh is something else. He wants to become an IAS officer so that he can come to the need of the people.
“Ours is a backward area. I have seen that many IAS officers have done a lot for their respective areas. Hence, I can do so if I can enter into this most coveted job,” said Debesh.
“At the same time, I will get opportunity to serve the common people of the State and country,” he added.
His father Kishan Kumar Sahu and mother Subarna Sahu expressed joy over success of their son and want him to be an ideal person in the country.
However, another girl of the district and a resident of Sambalpur town, Barsharani Mahapatra, secured 554 marks, just two marks below the toppers.
But she alleges that she didn’t get marks as per her performance and expectation. She also wants to become a doctor in future.
So far as the results of Sambalpur BSE zone comprising nine revenue districts are concerned, 1, 25, 223 students appeared in the final HSC exam this year and 87, 894 have come out successful with pass rate of 70.18 per cent, very close to the State average.
