Three Arrested in Late-Night Gambling Raid in Jharsuguda Forest

Jharsuguda: In a late-night operation on Sunday, police raided a makeshift gambling den deep inside the Kankakumur jungle under Tileimal Panchayat in Laikera police station limits, leading to the arrest of three individuals.

The raid was carried out following specific intelligence about an illegal gambling session being conducted in the dense forest area. Acting swiftly, a team led by Laikera Police Station IIC Dilip Behera moved into the spot and apprehended three gamblers red-handed. Several others, however, managed to flee into the forest after noticing police movement.

During the operation, police seized ₹6,630 in cash, three decks of playing cards, and six motorcycles suspected to have been used by the participants.

The arrested persons have been identified as Ranjit Purty, Bikas Prasad, and Biplab Sarkar, all residents of the Gobindapur area under Bamra police station limits in neighbouring Sambalpur district.

A case has been registered at Laikera Police Station, and the accused were produced before the court on Monday. Officials said the raid was conducted with support from the night patrolling team of Laikera police.
