Third Degree Torture in Kendrapara: SI, ASI suspended

Kendrapara: The Odisha Excise Commissioner has suspended an Excise Sub-Inspector (SI) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in connection with an alleged third-degree torture case reported from Pattamundai Excise Police Station in Kendrapara.

The suspended officers have been identified as SI Chhayakanta Nayak and ASI Pradeep Mallik.

The action was taken following an investigation into allegations that a youth was allegedly detained and assaulted by excise personnel.

As per reports, Binod, local youth had reportedly informed the Excise Department about the illegal liquor business in the village. Following which the Excise Department conducted a raid in Baradia village under Rajnagar area.

Binod allegedly recorded the entire operation on his mobile phone. The officials reportedly objected to the filming and picked up the youth. He alleged that he was physically assaulted by the excise personnel.

He later lodged a complaint at Rajnagar Police Station against six persons, including the SI. Based on the complaint the police started an investigation.
