Suspicious Death at Bhubaneswar Rehab Centre

Bhubaneswar: A young man undergoing de-addiction treatment at a rehabilitation centre in the Jharpada area of Bhubaneswar died under suspicious circumstances on Thursday. The family of the deceased, Prashant Nayak from Nayagarh district, has alleged that he was murdered due to unpaid dues, while the rehab centre claims he succumbed to an ailment.

Prashant, who had been receiving treatment for the past six months, was declared dead on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at the centre. According to his family, Prashant was beaten to death due to outstanding payments.
Prashant’s mother stated that the family had already paid ₹2 lakh for his treatment, but the rehab authorities demanded an additional ₹7,000. Unable to afford further payments, she requested his discharge, but her plea was denied, and more money was sought.
On Thursday, the rehab centre informed the family that Prashant had lost consciousness and was taken to Capital Hospital. However, upon reaching the hospital, the family was told that he had passed away during transit.
The family has accused the rehab centre of physical assault leading to Prashant’s death and has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the rehab centre staff denied the allegations. A staff member who accompanied Prashant to the hospital stated that his blood pressure had spiked suddenly the previous night. “We administered medication, and he seemed stable until this morning when he suddenly became unresponsive. We rushed him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead,” the staff member said.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
