Subarnapur Father-Son Duo Gets Life Term for 2018 Murder

Subarnapur: Seven years after a brutal murder over a land dispute, a man and his son were on Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment by the District Sessions Judge in Odisha’s Subarnapur. The convicts, identified as Daman Rana and his son Gajapati Rana of Tithipali village, were found guilty after a lengthy trial.

The court delivered the verdict after examining all evidence and witness testimonies. In addition to life imprisonment, both have been fined ₹10,000 each. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment.

According to case records, the duo had murdered Chaitanya Rana, a resident of the same village, in 2018 following a dispute over land. Police had arrested the accused soon after the incident, and the case had been under trial in the District Sessions Court ever since.

A third accused, Santosh Rana, was acquitted due to lack of evidence. Public Prosecutor Madhumita Amat, under the supervision of Deputy Director of Prosecution Benudhar Pradhan, presented the case and later informed the media about the judgment.
