Students create artificial intelligence to treat real life diseases at hackathon

Surjit kumar Dhal, Bhubaneswar, March 5: Students from across the country worked non-stop for 36 hours under the third edition of Smart India Hackathon organized by Institute of Management New Delhi and created artificial intelligence doctors to treat everyday illnesses.
Once implemented, this will end the perennial problem of scarcity of doctors in small towns & villages of the country.
NDIM, Max Health Care, AICTE and Tech Mahindra awarded the Hackathon winners at NDIM on March 3 and lauded students’ efforts in coming up with digital solutions to the core problems of India’s health sector by creating ‘smart’ doctors.
These smart doctors would diagnose & treat patients in remote areas through Artificial Intelligence based apps. diseases like common cold, flu etc. which affect very large population of the country will now be treated through AI based solutions without the need of doctor’s consultation once these digital solutions get implemented.
These digital innovations will change the face of health-care in India especially in the far flung areas of the country.
Smart India Hackathon, which is the dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saw the participation of 11000 students this year at 48 centers in India.
Students worked non-stop for 36 hours at 350 problems presented by the public sector, ministries & departments of the union & state governments and the leading corporate houses like ITC, HCL, Infosys, Mahindra & Mahindra, Kotak Mahindra, Tata Motors, CISCO, ITC, PayTM etc.
Major breakthrough achieved at the premier MBA school New Delhi Institute of Management was the app based treatment of common diseases which do not require physical presence of any doctor.
Chairman AICTE, Dr. Anil Sahasarbudhe, lauded NDIM’s efforts in becoming an important start up promotion centre.
NDIM is the government of India’s nodal centre and the only centre for Smart India Hackathon in Delhi for the last 3 years. Inspecting the outcomes of the Hackathon, AICTE chairman expressed happiness that AI based doctors were unimaginable till recently and are now very much in the offing through the Smart India Hackathon.
Artificial Intelligence based doctors’ Apps coming up at NDIM are going to be path breaking innovation and will benefit very large population of the country.
