SRH Blast 235 as Klaasen and Co. Crush PBKS by 33 Runs in Uppal Thriller

Sunrisers Hyderabad continued their explosive batting form at home, posting a formidable 235 for 4 and defending it comfortably to defeat Punjab Kings by 33 runs in Match 49 of the TATA IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal.

Opting to bat first, SRH unleashed a high-scoring assault from the outset, maintaining a staggering run rate of nearly 12 runs per over. Abhishek Sharma set the aggressive tone with a blistering 35 off just 13 balls, while Travis Head chipped in with a quickfire 38 from 19 deliveries. The duo powered the hosts to 84 runs inside the first seven overs, putting Punjab’s bowlers under immediate pressure.

Ishan Kishan then provided fluency in the middle overs, scoring a well-paced 55 off 32 balls. However, it was Heinrich Klaasen who truly took charge, smashing an unbeaten 69 off 43 deliveries to anchor the innings and keep the momentum alive. Nitish Kumar Reddy provided the perfect finishing touch with an unbeaten 29 off 13 balls, including some big hits in the death overs. The final five overs yielded a massive 63 runs, helping SRH surge past the 230-mark.

Chasing a daunting target of 236, Punjab Kings’ innings got off to a disastrous start as they lost two wickets for just four runs within the first two overs. The visitors were left reeling early, but Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly produced a sensational maiden IPL century, remaining unbeaten on 107 off 59 balls. He brought up his hundred in just 57 deliveries, showcasing remarkable composure and power-hitting under pressure.

Connolly found limited support from Marcus Stoinis (28 off 14) and Suryansh Shedge (25), but regular fall of wickets at crucial intervals prevented Punjab from building any sustained momentum. Despite his valiant effort, the asking rate kept climbing, and the visitors eventually finished at 202 for 7 in 20 overs.

Bowling highlights for SRH
Pat Cummins led the attack effectively, picking up 2 wickets for 34 runs. Shivang Kumar complemented him with 2 for 45, while the rest of the SRH bowling unit maintained tight lines and struck at important moments to stifle the chase.

With this victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad strengthened their position at the top of the IPL 2026 points table, collecting two vital points and showcasing their credentials as serious contenders heading into the business end of the tournament. Punjab Kings, despite the fighting knock from Connolly, suffered another defeat and will need to regroup quickly.

The match lived up to its high-octane billing, delivering another memorable evening of big-hitting cricket at Uppal.
