SOG Jawan Injured in Gunfight With Maoists in Ganjam-Kandhamal Border

Bhubaneswar: A fierce encounter broke out between security forces and Maoists in the border areas of Ganjam and Kandhamal districts on Friday afternoon, leaving a Special Operations Group (SOG) jawan seriously injured.
The injured jawan, identified as Premsingh Majhi, sustained bullet wounds to his left hand and stomach. A bullet remains lodged in his stomach, doctors said.
According to reports, acting on intelligence inputs about Maoist movement in the forests near Bhanjanagar (Ganjam) and Raikia block (Kandhamal), an SOG team launched a search operation. The exchange of fire ensued when the Maoists retaliated after being fired upon by the forces.
Majhi was first treated at the primary health centre in Indragarh, Raikia, before being shifted to the Bhanjanagar sub-divisional hospital. Medical officials said he may be referred to MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, depending on his condition.
Meanwhile, search operations are continuing in the area as the Maoists managed to flee into the dense forests. Security has been tightened, and combing operations have been intensified.
