Six railway stations in Odisha to be revamped under ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’

Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards modernizing railway infrastructure in Odisha, Indian Railways has launched the redevelopment of six major railway stations in the region under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.’
This transformative initiative aims to improve passenger experience, foster economic growth, and enhance regional connectivity. The stations set for upgrade include Angul, Talcher, Talcher Road, Meramandali, Dhenkanal, and Rairakhol, all of which will be redesigned to meet world-class standards in terms of accessibility, sustainability, and passenger convenience.
The project will see the construction of new station buildings featuring modern architecture, state-of-the-art amenities, and enhanced passenger interfaces. Notably, each station will benefit from wider foot-over bridges (12 meters) and lifts to ensure better accessibility, alongside improved platforms with enhanced surface quality, digital signage, and upgraded security systems. Sustainability is also a key focus, with energy-efficient lighting, water conservation measures, and waste management strategies incorporated into the design. The stations will be equipped with digital amenities such as Wi-Fi, LED coach indication boards, and modern lounge areas.
The redevelopment of each station is tailored to local needs, with budgets ranging from Rs 12.97 crore for Talcher Station to Rs 26.93 crore for Rairakhol Station. Improvements include the installation of additional platform shelters, the development of integrated transport infrastructure like drop-off and parking areas, and upgrades to station façades to enhance visual appeal. These enhancements will not only improve the comfort and convenience of daily commuters but also contribute to local employment and tourism, boosting the regional economy.
