Six Odia Migrant Workers Killed in Andhra Granite Quarry Accident

Bhubaneswar/Bapatla: In a tragic incident, at least six migrant workers from Odisha lost their lives in a fatal accident at a private granite quarry in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district on Saturday morning.

The mishap occurred at the Satyakrishna Granite Quarry near Ballikurava, where around 20 labourers were working when a massive portion of the quarry’s edge suddenly collapsed, burying several workers under heavy boulders.

According to initial reports, six workers died on the spot, while ten others sustained critical injuries. Rescue teams rushed to the site after local authorities were alerted and launched an intensive operation to save those believed to be still trapped beneath the debris.

The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. Efforts are ongoing to trace and rescue the remaining missing workers.

Among the deceased, two have been identified as Bhaskar Bisoi and Tukuna Dalei, both residents of Alora village in the Mohana area of Gajapati district. The identities of the other four deceased are yet to be confirmed, though sources indicate they hail from Ganjam district.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep grief over the incident. He has spoken with top officials and directed them to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured workers.

A detailed investigation into the cause of the quarry collapse is expected to follow.
