Similipal to become Eco-Sensitive Zone

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to protect the biodiversity of Similipal, the Odisha government has decided to declare the area an eco-sensitive zone. This decision was announced by Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, Minister of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Odisha on Thursday.

To ensure strict monitoring and protection, the government will install additional AI cameras inside Similipal. These cameras will aid in the immediate detection and capture of poachers, thereby enhancing wildlife security.

The minister emphasized that any mining work within the area will be closely monitored, and strict action will be taken against any activities that harm the environment.

A special committee has been formed to oversee wildlife protection and crimes, including forest poaching. The committee, which includes local MLAs, has unanimously consented to the decision. According to the minister, no large-scale commercial construction will be permitted in the area without the committee’s approval.

Odisha government is committed to preserving the environment and natural resources of Similipal. The Union Government has also been informed about this decision, ensuring a collaborative effort to protect this vital ecosystem.

This move is expected to boost conservation efforts and safeguard the rich biodiversity of Similipal, a renowned wildlife sanctuary and tiger reserve in Odisha.
