Severe cold wave grips Odisha as temperatures plunges

Bhubaneswar: A strong cold wave in Odisha is being experienced as the mercury has hit its lowest. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe cold wave alert in several districts of Odisha. In many places, the mercury has dropped significantly.
According to the recent reports from the IMD, the temperature in Shimlipal Sanctuary in Mayurbhanj district has dropped to zero degrees, which is the lowest in the state. Similarly, the temperature in Jharsuguda today is recorded at 6.2 degrees Celsius, while the temperature in the capital city of Odisha, Bhubaneswar, has also dropped to 10.2 degrees Celsius.
The cold wave is being experienced more in several districts like Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Khordha, Angul, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Nabarangpur, and Koraput.
Dense fog affected visibility in several areas due to a cold wave in Odisha. Heavy fog has caused traffic problems in Nayagarh, Boudh, Cuttack, and western Odisha. A yellow warning has been issued in several places for the next few days for a severe cold wave and dense fog. The cold is unlikely to ease before mid-January, IMD reports.
