Seven injured in Vedanta fire: safe after treatment 

Surjit Kumar Dhal SAMBALPUR, JULY 7: Seven persons on Saturday were injured in a fire at Vedanta’s  at Jharsuguda unit.

However, Vedanta’s own fire fighting personnel doused the fire and saved it from spreading.

Though the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be known, short circuit is believed to be the cause of fire at the preliminary stage.

During the fire, seven persons were working in the second floor of the GAP and they managed to escape through the emergency exit, Vedant PRO Sanjeev Patnaik said.

He said six workers who felt suffocated were provided preliminary treatment inside the plant’s own hospital and released thereafter.

One Bisi Keshan Pradhan, a contract labourer sustained serious injuries in the palms and was released after treatment, Patnaik added.

“The loss due to the fire is also being assessed and a high level team will enquire into the exact cause of accident,” he added.
