School Warden Stabbed to Death, Principal Injured in Late-Night Attack in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: In a shocking incident, a 50-year-old warden of a private school was allegedly stabbed to death while the school principal sustained serious injuries in a late-night attack at Baisinga in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Sanyashi Das (50), a resident of Uttarpal village. He was working as a warden at Sri Aurobinda School in Gadadeulia.

According to preliminary reports, the incident took place around 9 pm when Sanyashi was returning from the school on his motorcycle, with school principal Kadamini Rout (55) riding pillion. While they were heading towards NH-18, they were intercepted by two to three unidentified assailants.

The attackers allegedly assaulted Sanyashi with a hard plastic pipe and later stabbed him with a knife. When Kadamini attempted to intervene, she was also attacked and sustained head injuries. Despite her injuries, she managed to escape and rushed back to the school premises, where she alerted students and staff.

Two students immediately reached the spot, while the school cook informed school owner Bijay Rout and the principal’s family. The owner rushed to the scene and shifted both victims to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Balasore.

However, doctors declared Sanyashi dead on arrival. Kadamini, who suffered serious injuries, was given initial treatment and later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced care.

Sources said the deceased had sustained multiple stab injuries to his neck and back.

Police are yet to formally register the case and are awaiting a detailed report. A scientific team has been sent to the crime scene, and an investigation has been launched from all possible angles to identify and apprehend the attackers.
