Sambalpur Pays Tribute to Veer Surendra Sai on Birth Anniversary

The birth anniversaries of legendary freedom fighters Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai were observed across the country on Friday with reverence and patriotic spirit. Tribute ceremonies and commemorative programmes were organised to honour their invaluable contributions to India’s freedom movement.


In Sambalpur, the birth anniversary of Veer Surendra Sai was marked with solemnity and enthusiasm. The district administration organised a tribute ceremony at Jail Chowk, where floral garlands were offered at the statue of the iconic freedom fighter. The event was attended by the District Collector, Commissioner, and several eminent personalities from the region.

Cultural programmes showcasing the life, struggle, and sacrifices of Veer Surendra Sai were also organised, reflecting his enduring influence on India’s freedom struggle.

Special events were held at Khinda, the birthplace of Veer Surendra Sai, to honour his legacy. These included a Tiranga Padayatra and cultural performances that highlighted the values of patriotism, courage, and sacrifice.

Speaking on the occasion, District Collector Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar said Sambalpur celebrated the birth anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter with great enthusiasm. He added that the Odisha government, through the Department of Tourism, has announced plans to develop Khinda as a tourist destination to preserve and promote the legacy of Veer Surendra Sai.

The celebrations served as a reminder of the lasting legacy of Veer Surendra Sai and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, inspiring citizens to uphold the values of freedom and national pride.
