Rs 1000 cr for VSSUT to convert it to Centre of Excellence

SAMBALPUR, AUG 26(Reporters Today Bureau): The Odisha government will spend Rs. 1000 crore to convert the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) at Burla to a ‘Centre of Excellence’.

A team of senior officers including chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra,  Technical Education  Secretary Hemanta Chandra Sharma, 5T Secretary VK Pandian visited the Institution on Thursday and announced the package.

“A masterplan will be prepared for this first technical institution of the state to convert it to a Centre of Excellence. At the same time, 80 acres of land adjacent to it will be added to the existing campus for expansion,” said the chief secretary Mahapatra.

He further informed that student strength will be increased to 10000 which is nearly 6000 now. Vice Chancellor Prof. Bansidhar Majhi also apprised the team of the future plans on card for upgradation of the university to make it at par with any other technical institution.

The team also visited the IIC Baijamunda-a model home for the destitutes, the Lady Lewis Girls’ High School and Samaleswari temple.

They instructed the concerned authorities to complete the work within the stipulated time period.

In the Lady Lewis Girls High School, they visited the smart class rooms, library and asked the headmaster and the staff about the problems in the school. Collector Ananya Das accompanied the team during the visit.
