Rourkela Police Foil Robbery Bid, Five Arrested with Weapons

Bhubaneswar/Rourkela: In a major breakthrough, Plantsite police on Sunday arrested five persons who were allegedly planning a robbery in Rourkela.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a surprise raid near Congress Bhawan, B-8, Sector-21, on the intervening night of Saturday and seized deadly weapons from the accused.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rohit Singh (22), Abhay Chaudhary (26), Shambhu Ram (24), S.K. Taj (19), and Nitesh Kumar Sahu (20) — all residents of Rourkela.

Police recovered a machete, a knife, and an iron rod from their possession. According to officials, the gang was preparing to target houses, shops, and petrol pumps in the area.

The swift operation was led by Sub-Inspector B.B. Khatei, whose timely action thwarted the suspected robbery attempt.
