Rourkela Locals Block NH-143 After Woman’s Death
Local residents blocked National Highway 143 near Rooptola in Rourkela after a young woman, Sabina Surin, died in a road accident involving a speeding car.
Residents gathered at the accident site and staged a blockade demanding compensation for the victim’s family. The agitation caused heavy traffic congestion, leaving vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway.
Panposh SDPO Sushant Kumar Das and Inspector-in-Charge of Raghunathpali Police Station reached the scene. They engaged with the protesters, urging them to clear the road and restore normal traffic flow.
The incident has triggered anger among locals who demanded strict action against reckless driving. The protest highlighted growing concerns about road safety in Rourkela.
Police officials continue negotiations with the agitators to ease the situation. Traffic remains disrupted, and commuters face delays as authorities work to resolve the standoff.
