Review Meeting Held on Progress of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital in Khurda

Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Ahuja on Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of the upcoming Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Jatni in Khurda district.

The 294-bed facility, being established in collaboration with Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai, will be the first modern cancer hospital in eastern India and is expected to provide advanced treatment to patients from Odisha and neighbouring states.

During the meeting, officials reviewed key aspects of the project, including land acquisition, construction of roads and drainage systems, uninterrupted power supply, and financial arrangements. Ahuja stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination to ensure timely completion of the hospital.

The discussions also highlighted the need for setting up a Population and Cancer Registry in Odisha, conducting surveys, and addressing upcoming challenges in delivering quality medical care.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Department, Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh; Director General, Fire Services, Dr. Sudhanshu Sarangi; Health and Family Welfare Commissioner and Secretary, Ashwati S; Managing Director, CRUT, N.N. Tirumala Nayak; Khurda Collector Amrit Ruturaj; Director, Public Health, Odisha, along with senior officials from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, cancer specialist Professor Dr. Lingaraj Nayak, and representatives from the Urban Development, Energy, and other related departments.

Once operational, the hospital is expected to be a major healthcare hub for cancer treatment in the region.
