Queue System for Darshan at Puri Jagannath Temple from September 15

Bhubaneswar: The long-debated queue system for darshan at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri will be introduced from September 15, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan announced on Friday.

The system will come into effect after the formation of the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee, which is expected to be constituted by September 3 or 4. The newly formed committee will take the final call on shifting the Hundi from the Jagamohan area before rolling out the new arrangements.

“The temple administration is fully prepared to implement the queue system. Once in place, it will ensure smooth crowd management and allow devotees to have darshan of the deities in a disciplined and hassle-free manner,” the Minister said.

The Srimandir Managing Committee, responsible for overseeing the affairs of the 12th-century shrine, has remained defunct since its tenure ended in August 2024. The delay in appointing a new panel has drawn criticism from both servitors and devotees, especially in light of sensitive issues such as the Ratna Bhandar inventory and the stampede during this year’s Ratha Jatra.

With the queue system set to be implemented, authorities hope to enhance safety, orderliness, and devotee experience at one of the country’s most revered pilgrimage sites.
