President Murmu Urges Odisha MLAs to Uphold Public Trust

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu, delivering her first presidential address to the Odisha Assembly, called upon legislators to honour the trust placed in them by the people. Emphasizing the value of public representation, she said, “The people have sent you with many dreams. It is your duty to put a smile on their faces.”
Highlighting the responsibility entrusted to elected members, Murmu noted that their conduct, speech, and actions shape public perception. “The government is in the hands of the people, and you are their representative. Their hopes and expectations are with you. Your behaviour and speech are very valuable. What you do, the people will follow,” she remarked.

The President also appreciated the growing representation of women in the Assembly, commending the leadership of the woman Speaker presiding over the House. She expressed confidence in Odisha’s future, stating that the state is rich in resources and has the potential to become a leading state. She urged legislators to pledge themselves to building a prosperous Odisha by 2036.
Reflecting on her own journey, Murmu fondly recalled her days as an MLA and Minister in the same House, saying she had both asked and answered questions in the Assembly. Expressing gratitude, she added, “Without the blessings of Lord Jagannath, I would not have reached here.”
Murmu also paid homage to Odisha’s iconic leaders, including Mahatab and Biju Patnaik, acknowledging their pivotal role in shaping the state’s development. Her address marked a historic moment, inspiring lawmakers to contribute decisively to the vision of a developed India.
