President Murmu Felicitates Women’s World Cup Champions at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday met the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, winners of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, and congratulated them on their historic achievement.

In a post on X, the President of India’s official handle stated, “Members of the Indian Women Cricket team, winner of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President congratulated the team and said that they have created history and have become role models for the younger generation. She said that this team reflects India — representing different regions, backgrounds, and circumstances, yet united as one Team India.”

During the interaction, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur presented the President with a team jersey signed by all the players as a token of gratitude.

The Indian team created history last Sunday by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, clinching their maiden ICC title.

A day earlier, on Wednesday evening, the World Cup champions met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. The players, dressed smartly in formal attire and proudly wearing their winner’s medals, received warm praise from the Prime Minister for their remarkable comeback after three early defeats in the league stage and for silencing critics through resilience and teamwork.

The team also gifted a signed Indian jersey to the Prime Minister during the interaction.

The cricketers arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday evening amid tight security and were given a grand welcome at their hotel, where celebrations continued late into the night. Players including Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, and Sneh Rana were seen dancing to dhol beats as staff and guests joined in the festivities.

Following their meetings with the President and the Prime Minister, the players are set to return to their respective hometowns. Shafali Verma, who was named Player of the Match in the final, will travel to Nagaland to lead the North Zone in the ongoing Inter-Zonal T20 Tournament.
