Pregnant Woman’s Death: Private Hospital Sealed in Jagatsinghpur Amid Negligence Allegations

Bhubaneswar: The administration in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday sealed a private hospital following the death of a pregnant woman, allegedly due to medical negligence.
The action was carried out in the presence of senior district officials, including the Sub-Collector and the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO). Authorities sealed the facility after shifting all patients to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

According to reports, Sushree Sangeeta Sahoo, wife of Shakti Prasad Sahoo from Dondua village under Jagatsinghpur Sadar police limits, was admitted to the private hospital on Wednesday morning with pregnancy-related complications. As her condition worsened, doctors advised her family to shift her to a private medical college and hospital in Bhubaneswar.
However, her health deteriorated further during transit, and she was declared dead on arrival at the medical facility in the capital.
The deceased woman’s family has alleged medical negligence by the private hospital in Jagatsinghpur and held it responsible for her death. Tension escalated after the incident, with angry relatives reportedly resorting to stone pelting at the hospital premises.
Police intervened and detained three persons in connection with the violence.
On Thursday, the victim’s family members staged a road blockade demanding adequate compensation. They also urged the authorities to arrest the doctor involved and take strict action against the hospital management.
