Pregnant Woman Dies in Cuttack, Husband and Father-in-Law Held

Bhubaneswar: A seven-month pregnant woman died under mysterious circumstances at Nuapatna village under Tigiria police station limits in Cuttack district, sparking allegations of foul play.

The deceased, identified as Kalpana Dutta, had been married to Dipak Dutta for nine years. The couple has a seven-year-old daughter. According to reports, Kalpana was admitted to the Athagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital after falling ill. When her family members rushed to the hospital, they were informed of her death.

Kalpana’s father alleged that she was subjected to mental harassment by her in-laws and accused her husband and his family of poisoning her. Acting on his complaint, Tigiria police registered a case and arrested her husband, Dipak Dutta, and father-in-law, Prahallad Dutta.

Police seized the body and conducted a post-mortem in the presence of Athagarh Sub-Collector Manas Ranjan. The body was later handed over to the family for last rites.

The case has triggered shock in the area, with police investigation underway to ascertain the exact cause of death.
