PM Modi, US Prez to meet on February 13
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States President Donald Trump will meet on February 13 in Washington.
The development comes days after the Ministry of External Affairs said it was in talks with the US for an early visit by the Prime Minister.
This will be PM Modi’s first bilateral visit to the US since Trump took the oath of office for the second time.
As per the plan, the Prime Minister will travel to Washington, DC, after concluding his two-day visit to Paris, officials said.
On Friday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India and the US were trying for PM Modi’s early visit to the US to further deepen the partnership between the two countries. He, however, said that the exact dates of the visit are still being worked out.
Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20.
Modi spoke to him on January 27 and both leaders vowed to work towards a “trusted” partnership with a focus on boosting India-US cooperation in areas of trade, energy and defence. Both India and US were looking at the window between February 12-14 for PM’s visit.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar represented India at Trump’s swearing-in ceremony at the invitation of the US government.
