PM Modi Unveils Odisha Vision 2036, Hails BJP Govt’s First-Year Progress

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the efforts of Odisha’s maiden Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on Thursday, stating that it has laid a strong foundation for good governance in the state. He was addressing a massive public gathering at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar to mark the first anniversary of the BJP-led government in Odisha.

“The first BJP government in Odisha has completed one year. It has laid the foundation for good governance and rapid development in the state,” said Modi. He congratulated Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and his Cabinet for their dedicated service toward transforming Odisha’s future.

The Prime Minister invoked Lord Jagannath and Lord Lingaraj at the beginning of his speech and greeted the crowd in Odia, receiving thunderous applause. Highlighting Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, he said, “Odisha has played a significant role in enriching India’s cultural glory. Lord Jagannath is a source of inspiration for all of us.”

He commended the state government’s initiative to open the Ratna Bhandar of the Jagannath Temple in Puri and ensure its proper conservation. Notably, the Prime Minister also revealed that he had declined an invitation from former U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Washington, choosing instead to prioritize his scheduled visit to Odisha.

“President Trump had invited me to the U.S., but I politely declined as I had already committed to visit the land of Lord Jagannath on June 20,” Modi shared.

A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of Odisha Vision 2036 and 2047, ambitious development roadmaps aimed at transforming Odisha into a developed state by its centenary year in 2036, and a major economic force by 2047.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, addressing the gathering, praised the Prime Minister for the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, which targeted and dismantled terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

“Under PM Modi’s leadership, India has taken decisive action against terrorism, and our armed forces have delivered justice,” said Majhi.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the state’s impressive strides over the past year. “We have provided government jobs to over 28,000 youth and grounded industrial projects worth around ₹1.5 lakh crore,” he said.

Majhi also detailed flagship initiatives such as the hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy and the Subhadra Scheme for women’s welfare. He declared that the state government aims to build a $500 billion economy by 2036 and a $1.5 trillion economy by 2047.

The event concluded with renewed optimism for Odisha’s future, as both leaders emphasized inclusive development, cultural pride, and economic ambition.
