PM Modi Announces ₹ 500 cr Package Aftermath Of Cyclone Yaas For Odisha

Bhubaneswar (Reporters Today Bureau): Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance worth ₹  500 crores to Odisha in the aftermath of Cyclone Yaas on Friday.
 
He also said that the inter-ministerial team will be deployed by the centre to visit Odisha and West Bengal for assessing the extent of damage based on which further assistance will be granted.
After the aerial visit of  PM Narendra Modi’s cyclone, Yaas hit areas chief minister Naveen Patnaik, in a meeting with the PM said Odisha does not seek any immediate financial assistance from the Central government as the country is at the peak of the pandemic.
“As the country is at the peak of Covid 19 pandemic, we have not sought any immediate financial assistance to burden the Central Govt and would like to manage it through our resources to tide over the crisis,” said Patnaik.
He further said “We would like to manage it through our resources to tide over the crisis. However, we sought assistance for long term measures to make Odisha disaster resilient as we are frequented by such climate hazards every year. Odisha demands a disaster-resilient power infrastructure and resilient coastal protection with storm surge resilient embankments”.
