PM Likely to Inaugurate Redeveloped Puri Railway Station

PURI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the redeveloped Puri railway station before next year’s Rath Yatra, with around 78% of the project completed. The inauguration date is yet to be announced.

Chief Secretary Anu Garg reviewed the station’s progress and other infrastructure projects on Thursday. The upgraded station will feature food courts, Jana Ahara centres, retiring rooms, dormitories, passenger lounges, automatic ticket vending machines and baggage scanners to handle the growing rush of pilgrims.

The review also focused on repairing the Birharekrushnapur–Balighata road, removing encroachments near Grand Road, relocating roadside vendors, widening key roads, improving parking facilities and strengthening traffic management. Widening the Matiapada road for two-way traffic was also emphasised.

According to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, Rath Katha Anukula puja will take place on February 11, 2027. Rath Yatra is scheduled for July 5, followed by Bahuda Yatra on July 13. DGP Vinaytosh Mishra and senior officials attended the meeting.
