PG Student Found Dead in Sambalpur University Hostel, Probe Underway

Sambalpur: A second-year postgraduate student of the Economics department at Sambalpur University was found dead at the Brahmaputra hostel late on Tuesday night, triggering shock and grief across the campus.

The deceased has been identified as Suraj Kujur, a native of the Kutra area in Sundargarh district. According to reports, Kujur’s body was found hanging from the ceiling of his room (Room No. 52) by hostel authorities, who immediately alerted the university administration.

Following intimation from the university, personnel from Burla police station rushed to the spot, recovered the body and launched an investigation into the incident. While initial suspicion points towards suicide, police officials said all possible angles are being examined, including the student’s mental health condition and any circumstances that may have led to the incident.

Confirming the development, Sambalpur University Registrar Pradeep Naik stated that the police were informed without delay and the student’s family has also been notified. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of death.
