Peon Allegedly Makes Officer Drink Urine in Odisha’s Gajapati District; Police Launch Probe

Paralakhemundi: In a shocking and deeply disturbing incident, a peon at the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) Department office in R. Udayagiri of Odisha’s Gajapati district has been accused of giving his senior officer a bottle containing urine instead of drinking water.

According to a complaint filed by Assistant Executive Engineer Guruprasad Pattnayak, the incident occurred on the night of July 23 while he was working late at the office. Pattnayak had reportedly asked Subash Chandra Behera, a peon in the department, for some water. Behera allegedly handed him a bottle, which Pattnayak unknowingly drank from due to work pressure.

Soon after consumption, Pattnayak began feeling unwell and grew suspicious about the contents of the bottle. His condition worsened, and he was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment.

Following his recovery, Pattnayak filed a formal complaint with the R. Udayagiri police, accusing the peon of intentionally causing harm. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.

The motive behind the peon’s alleged act remains unclear. Investigating officers stated that further inquiry will determine whether the incident was a deliberate act of malice or an accident.
