Patnagarh parcel bomb case: Punjilal Meher awarded life imprisonment

Patnagarh: In the ill famous Patnagarh parcel bomb case in Balangir district of Odisha the ADJ Court in Patnagarh today pronounced the judgement after 7 years of the incident. The Court convicted accused Pujilal Meher and awarded him life imprisonment. That means he will remained lodged in the jail till death. Apart from that the accused was also fined Rs 50 thousand.

Accused Punjilal was taken from Balangir jail early in the morning under tight security to the Patnagarh Court.

The statements of all 62 witnesses as well as the accused Punjilal Meher had been recorded earlier.

It is to be noted that on February 23, 2018, a gift parcel delivered to the residence of newlywed Soumya Sekhar Sahu and his wife Reema turned out to be a deadly trap. As Soumya opened the parcel, a powerful bomb exploded, claiming the lives of the young software engineer and his grandmother, Jemamani Sahu. Also, Reema suffered serious injuries in the blast.

The investigation that followed was a complex and challenging one, with the police pursuing leads across multiple cities before finally arresting a colleague of Soumya’s mother, who had been replaced at her college. This shocking incident sent ripples through the region, raising questions about safety.
