Pangolin Rescued From Fence in Sundargarh District

Bhubaneswar: A pangolin was rescued from Jora village in Sundargarh district after it was found entangled in a fence on Wednesday night.

The three-kilogram pangolin had gotten stuck in the fence surrounding the house of a villager, Digambar Sa. On Thursday morning, Sa noticed the animal and informed locals, who subsequently alerted the forest department. Forest officials later carried out a successful rescue operation.

The Indian pangolin (Manis crassicaudata), also known as the thick-tailed pangolin, scaly anteater, or locally as ‘bajrakapta,’ is a nocturnal and solitary mammal. It is listed as a Schedule-I species under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, which grants it the highest level of protection with stringent penalties for offences.
