Over 80,000 ineligible beneficiaries return ration cards

Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards ensuring better-targeted food distribution, a total of 80,000 ineligible beneficiaries have voluntarily returned their ration cards in Odisha, including around 4,500 government employees.
This was announced on Sunday by the state’s Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister, Krushna Chandra Patra, who thanked those who responded positively to the government’s appeal.
Patra further shared that, on average, 3,000 to 4,000 ineligible beneficiaries are surrendering their ration cards each day.
The Minister reiterated the call for others who are still holding onto their cards to come forward and return them.
He specifically urged those with a monthly income of Rs 10,000 in rural areas and Rs 15,000 in urban areas to follow suit, assuring that no immediate action would be taken against them.
