Over 50 Students Fall Ill in Suspected Food Poisoning in Koraput

Laxmipur/Koraput: In a shocking incident highlighting serious lapses in food safety standards at public educational institutions, more than 50 students of a government school in Odisha’s Koraput district were taken ill due to suspected food poisoning.

The incident was reported at Banshaput Upper Primary School under the Narayanpatna Block, where students complained of nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain shortly after consuming food served at the school. Following the sudden outbreak of illness, teachers and local residents rushed the affected students to nearby healthcare facilities for treatment.

Medical officials stated that the condition of the students is stable, though several of them remain under observation. Preliminary findings point towards contaminated food as the possible cause, but an official confirmation is awaited pending further investigation.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns over the monitoring and quality control of mid-day meals and hostel food provided at State-run educational institutions. Parents and local residents have demanded strict action against those responsible and called for regular inspections to prevent such incidents in the future.

District administration officials have ordered an inquiry into the matter and assured that necessary steps will be taken to ensure food safety and accountability in government schools.
