Over 4,600 Primary Schools Shut in Odisha Due to Low Enrollment

Bhubaneswar: As many as 4,619 primary schools in Odisha are currently non-operational owing to poor student enrollment, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond informed the Assembly on Friday.

Responding to a query from Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, the Minister said that of these, 46 schools have been reopened following an improvement in student numbers. Applications for reopening five more schools are under consideration by the department.

The Minister also shared a district-wise list of closed schools, reopened schools, and schools with pending applications in separate annexures.
