Operation ‘Jeevan Rakhsya’: Central Range Police Collect ₹29 Lakh in Road Safety Drive

Cuttack: The Central Range Police, Cuttack, conducted a special road safety enforcement and awareness drive titled Operation “Jeevan Rakhsya” from January 7 to January 13, 2026, under the directions of the Inspector General of Police, Central Range. The drive was aimed at ensuring safer roads, strict compliance with traffic rules, and reducing accidents caused by violations.

During the operation, intensive checking was carried out at strategic locations across all districts under the Central Range. Special focus was given to commercial vehicles, heavy transport vehicles, and other road users. Police teams took action against offences such as drunken driving, over-speeding, overloading, absence of valid documents, and non-use of helmets and seatbelts.

District-wise enforcement showed significant results. In Puri district, 2,193 vehicles were checked and fines amounting to ₹14.63 lakh were collected. Cuttack district saw 309 vehicles checked with ₹45,000 realised as fines. In Kendrapara, 333 vehicles were inspected, leading to the collection of ₹1.83 lakh, while Jagatsinghpur recorded 318 vehicle checks and ₹38,500 in fines.

In Jajpur district, police checked 1,437 vehicles and collected ₹2.11 lakh as fines. Khordha district reported 207 vehicles checked with fines amounting to ₹2.92 lakh. Nayagarh district witnessed the highest enforcement, where 3,087 vehicles were checked and ₹6.70 lakh was collected.

Overall, the week-long drive led to the checking of 7,884 vehicles, including 34 commercial and government buses and 27 heavy transport vehicles. A total fine of ₹29.03 lakh was collected during the operation.

Officials said the drive was conducted smoothly without any major law and order issues. Along with enforcement, police personnel also created awareness among drivers and the general public on the importance of road discipline, use of safety gear, and adherence to traffic rules to prevent accidents.

The Central Range Police reiterated its commitment to road safety and appealed to citizens to cooperate with the police and follow traffic norms strictly. Similar enforcement and awareness drives will continue in the coming days in the interest of public safety.
