Old Canal Bridge Collapse Cuts Off Bariniput Villages from Jeypore

Koraput: A portion of an old canal bridge under the Irrigation Department collapsed on Saturday, disrupting connectivity between several villages under Bariniput panchayat and Jeypore town in Koraput district.

According to reports, the bridge was free of pedestrians and vehicles at the time of the incident, preventing any casualties or major mishap. However, the sudden collapse has left residents stranded and brought traffic movement in the area to a complete halt.

The damaged bridge served as a crucial link for daily commuters, farmers transporting agricultural produce, and schoolchildren traveling to nearby institutions. With the route now blocked, villagers are being forced to take long detours, leading to significant inconvenience and delays.

Local authorities have reached the spot, and police from Jeypore Sadar station have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the collapse. Further assessment of structural damage and restoration plans is awaited.
