Odisha Water Resources Department on Alert Ahead of Predicted Cyclone-Linked Rainfall

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Water Resources Department has intensified its preparedness measures following forecasts of potential heavy rainfall linked to an approaching cyclone, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
A review meeting was convened at Lok Seva Bhawan on Friday evening, chaired by Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, with the department’s Chief Engineer and senior officials in attendance.

During the meeting, officials were instructed to closely monitor water levels in all major reservoirs, assess inflows resulting from anticipated rainfall, and plan controlled water releases to ensure safe and efficient management.
While river levels across the state are currently low and there is no immediate flood threat, Garg stressed the need for constant vigilance and prompt response.
“All officers and engineers, both at headquarters and field levels, must remain alert and discharge their duties diligently to manage water levels and prevent any untoward incidents,” Garg directed.
The meeting also underscored the importance of accurate weather forecasting and proactive risk management to safeguard public safety and maintain effective reservoir operations amid the evolving weather conditions.
