Odisha vigilance raid on SI of Bijepur police station

Bargarh: In yet another Odisha Vigilance raid, a police SI is under scanner. A short while ago, the SI identified as Jaga Bariha of Bijepur police station in Bargarh district has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and taking bribe.
According too reports, the SI was taking a bribe of Rs. 7,000 from a scrap dealer (Complainant) to allow him to run his business smoothly and not to lodge any case against him. The accused SI Bariha had demanded bribe Rs.10,000 from scrap dealer for the above purpose.
Further, when the complainant expressed his inability to pay the demanded bribe Rs 10,000, Bariha reduced the amount to Rs.7,000. At the same time, Bariha also threatened the complainant to take strong action against him, unless he was paid the bribe Rs. 7,000.
This left no option for the complainant but to report the matter to Vigilance authorities. Following this the Vigilance Officers nabbed Bariha, SI of Police, today, while taking the stated bribe of Rs 7,000 from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe money of Rs. 7,000 has been recovered from the possession of accused Bariha and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations linked to Bariha the said SI from Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.
In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance PS Case No.16 dt.24.08.2025 U/s-7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress against accused Sri Bariha, SI of Police. Detailed reports awaited in this matter.
