Odisha to Witness Drop in Night Temperatures as Winter Chill Sets In

Bhubaneswar: The state is likely to experience its first touch of winter this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a drop of 2°C to 3°C in minimum temperatures over the next two days. The decline in night temperatures will mark the beginning of the winter chill across Odisha.

According to the IMD’s mid-day bulletin, the fall in temperature is expected across several districts over the next 48 hours, with no major change thereafter. At present, night temperatures remain unusually high — 5°C to 6°C above normal in South Interior Odisha, 3°C to 5°C above normal in some interior areas, and 2°C to 3°C above normal in coastal regions. Only a few districts are recording near-normal temperatures.

“Night temperature is likely to drop within the next two days, and similar weather conditions may persist for a few more days,” said Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

The IMD also predicted clear skies and dry weather across most parts of the state, which will contribute to cooler nights and pleasant mornings.

With the mercury expected to dip gradually, residents of interior and western Odisha are likely to feel the first hint of winter, as early mornings and late nights turn cooler.
