Odisha to Set Up 11 New Old Age Homes Across Districts

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has planned to establish 11 new old age homes in different districts of the state, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Minister Nityananda Gond informed the State Assembly.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Padma Lochan Panda, the Minister said that the state currently has 142 old age homes. Of these, 88 are supported by the central government, six receive funding from the state government, and five are funded through the District Mineral Foundation (DMF).

The government provides an annual maintenance grant of ₹15.31 lakh for each 25-bed old age home, Gond added.
He further informed the House that five new 50-bed old age homes have been approved and will be set up this year in Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Sambalpur districts. In addition, grants have been recommended for the establishment of six more old age homes in Angul, Bargarh, Malkangiri, and Sundargarh districts.
However, the Minister clarified that the government is not currently considering any proposal to construct an old age home in every block of the state.
