Odisha to Host World Athletics Tour at Kalinga Stadium on Aug 10

Bhubaneswar: In a significant milestone for Indian athletics, Odisha is set to host the World Athletics Continental Tour (Bronze Level) for the first time on August 10 at the iconic Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
Announcing the event at a press conference, Odisha Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj said over 150 athletes from more than 10 countries will compete in the prestigious international tournament. Participating nations include India, Turkmenistan, Bhutan, Philippines, South Korea, Malaysia, Iraq, Vietnam, Republic of Cameroon, Sri Lanka, Iran, and the Maldives.
A total of 20 track and field events will be held, making this one of the largest athletics competitions ever hosted in the state.
“This is a proud moment for Odisha. Hosting the World Athletics Continental Tour reflects our unwavering commitment to sporting excellence. From infrastructure to hospitality, we are ensuring world-class arrangements,” said Minister Suraj, highlighting Odisha’s growing reputation as a global sports destination.
He also expressed confidence in Odisha’s athletes, stating that many have already brought glory to the state in international events and are expected to shine once again.
Sandeep Mehta, Secretary General of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), praised Odisha for creating the ideal environment for a world-class competition. “With top-tier athletes participating, this promises to be a thrilling event,” he said.
The press meet was also attended by Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Services Department; Deepankar Mahapatra, Director, Sports and Youth Services; and B.E. Stanley Jones, Treasurer, Athletics Federation of India.
With the countdown underway, Odisha is preparing to welcome the world to a grand celebration of athletic excellence.
