Odisha to Hold Panchayat and Municipal Elections in January-February 2027

The State Election Commission confirmed that Panchayat and Municipal Elections will take place in January and February next year.
Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi announced the decision during a preparatory meeting, emphasising that the elections are necessary as the current term ends.
Padhi explained that the Commission has already initiated groundwork for the polls. Officials will conduct a door-to-door voter survey to ensure accuracy and inclusion. The survey will conclude by March. He clarified that the exercise has no connection with SIR and may face slight delays due to census activities.
The Commissioner highlighted that booth restructuring may occur wherever required. He stressed that the primary goal is to arrange polling booths close to voters, making participation easier and more accessible.
The Commission also reviewed logistical requirements during the preparatory meeting. Officials discussed manpower, security arrangements, and coordination with district administrations. Padhi reiterated that the Commission aims to conduct free and fair elections while ensuring maximum voter convenience.
The announcement has set the stage for Odisha’s Panchayat and Municipal Elections. Political parties are expected to intensify their groundwork, while the Commission focuses on voter lists, booth arrangements, and transparent procedures.
