Odisha to Get Four New Government Medical Colleges, Announces CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, while addressing the state-level Independence Day celebrations today, announced major initiatives to strengthen Odisha’s healthcare infrastructure, including the establishment of four new government medical colleges.
The new institutions will be set up in Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Nabarangpur, raising the total number of government medical colleges in the state to 16. The CM also revealed plans to upgrade Berhampur’s MKCG Medical College to AIIMS standards, a move aimed at boosting the state’s advanced medical care capabilities.
To support patients and their attendants, the government will create affordable accommodation facilities near the three largest medical colleges and hospitals, with around 2,250 beds to be made available.
Emphasising that health is a fundamental right, Majhi said the government has been implementing schemes like Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Vayo Vandana Yojana to ensure healthcare access for all. Over 82% of Odisha’s population — the highest in the country — is covered under these schemes, benefiting around 4 lakh people with financial assistance worth ₹936 crore so far.
