Odisha to Extend Farmer Registration Period

Bhubaneswar: In a relief to cultivators, the Odisha government has decided to extend the ongoing farmer registration period for paddy procurement.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Saturday said the move is aimed at accommodating those farmers who have not been able to complete their registration within the stipulated time. “A decision will be taken shortly, but the registration period will definitely be extended so that no farmer is left out,” he assured.

Patra informed that this year has seen a record response, with 19.66 lakh farmers already registered. Interestingly, several individuals who had earlier abandoned farming have now returned to cultivation and enrolled in the process, he added.

The Minister further clarified that registrations using non-agricultural land such as government plots, cremation grounds, or temple lands will be cancelled after verification through a field-level survey.

With the extension, the state aims to bring more genuine cultivators under the fold, ensuring better procurement and support benefits for them.
